Macrowave Privacy Policy
Effective November 4, 2026
Macrowave tracks food, water, workouts and body weight. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and nothing in it tracks you across apps or websites. This page explains what leaves your phone, where it goes and why.
Your logs stay with you
Everything you log (meals, foods, recipes, water, workouts and weigh-ins) is stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch, and synced through your own iCloud account if iCloud is on. It's kept in your private iCloud database, which we can't see or access.
Apple Health
If you allow it, Macrowave reads your body weight, your heart rate during workouts and your workouts from Apple Health, and saves your weigh-ins and workouts to it. Health data stays on your devices and in Apple Health. It's never sent to us or anyone else, and it's never used for advertising or marketing.
Looking up foods
When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the search words or barcode number are sent to USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts to find the food. Nothing else about you is sent with them.
AI meal estimates and recipe import
Macrowave Pro can estimate a meal from a description or a photo, and read a recipe from screenshots or pasted text. Only when you ask for one of these, Macrowave sends:
- the words and photos you chose, to Macrowave's server and on to Anthropic, whose Claude AI model makes the estimate;
- a random ID created when you installed the app, and the App Store's record of your subscription, so the server can confirm your subscription and keep to the daily limit.
Macrowave's server doesn't store your descriptions or photos. Its logs record only how many items an estimate had, how long it took and what it cost. To enforce daily limits, it keeps a count of estimates per subscription and per network address, in memory, for one day. Anthropic doesn't use your descriptions or photos to train its models; it handles them under its privacy policy. The server runs on Railway, which may keep standard request logs.
The first time you use AI estimates, Macrowave asks for your permission before sending anything.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We never see your name, email, Apple Account or payment details. The app and our server see only the App Store's record of the subscription: which plan it is, when it renews or ends, and a number that identifies it.
Shared recipes
A shared recipe link carries the recipe inside the link itself, after the "#", which browsers don't send to the website. The page that opens it is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may keep standard request logs.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your data.
- We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
- We don't know who you are: there's no sign-up and no account.
Children
Macrowave isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
Deleting Macrowave removes its data from your phone. To remove what's synced, go to Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage › Macrowave and delete it. Data saved to Apple Health is managed in the Health app.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
